I spent a lot of time outdoors, playing sports, running around with my brothers and being an active kid. But I also used to play video games and computer games. Some were educational, some were books (Living Books) and then there were absolutely pointless fun games like Captain Comic, Toejam & Earl, Sonic the Hedgehog and then there were two games I played constantly. The Adventure of Willy Beamish and The Manhole. manhole-4-fullfreaky1large

If you’ve never heard of these two games, I feel sorry for you. You were either too old to enjoy them, or didn’t have a computer. Even as an adult I want to play these games. The Manhole is just a random little never ending game that’s basically designed to keep children occupied. And it worked.

Last year I downloaded it on my phone and realised just how little you actually do during the game. Nevertheless it was a great game.

Willy Beamish, however, is a whole different kettle of fish. It was interactive, fun and several of you could play at once, giving input of where to go and what to do. My brothers and I used to play it for hours on end.

I remember the pixelated screen, the crabby old teacher who spat when she talked and his pet frog who hid in his backpack.

I loved it so much that as I type this I’m downloading a version of it to play. Hello nostalgia!!

The_Adventures_of_Willy_Beamish_CoverartSo are there any video or computer games that you absolutely loved as a kid that you wish you could get back?

Stay tuned to SPL because I think next time I’ll talk about Minecraft… Good old Minecraft 🙂

  1. We didn’t have that sort of technology around the house at all. But whenever I could sneak away to the bowling alley next door, I’d hit up the Pac Man table. Loved it! Oh, there was Galaga too. hehehe

Then when I was old enough to be on my own, I’d hit up the billiards hall and play Tekken and Mortal Kombat.

Good times… And now, I officially feel old. 😉
