It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, so I thought I’d take some time to do one. Nothing new on the release front, which, in a way, is a sigh of relief as I had two releases last month. Nice break is nice. But my definition of the word “break” doesn’t always mean what it does for everyone else. *g* I’ve been hard at work on a few different things:

* an untitled contemporary erotic romance (BDSM). This is Ryan’s book. For those unfamiliar with Ryan, he made a brief appearance in Hardware. Like Hardware, the female lead in this book is also a geek. She games (a fact that pleases Allison to no end) and is Gatlin Falls’ newest radio personality with an affinity for hard driving rock music. If you missed it, I posted a sneak peek over at The Romance Studio’s New Years Party – just scroll down a little past the Hardware excerpt. http://trsparties.com/index.php/featured-releases/2644-hardware-a-sneak-peek-of-a-work-in-progress-adult-excerpt-sara-brookes

* an untitled futuristic erotic romance (D/s). This is a project I’m working on that I’m not a liberty to discuss just yet, but I’ve just about finished the first draft, just one or two key scenes to go. This one has a word count target I’m desperately trying to stay under. I actually think I’m going to go over, but its easier sometimes to cut and remove. I should finish up this first draft this week.

* Chasing Sin, a contemporary erotic romance (m/m/f menage). The first draft of this one is done, it’s in week three of sitting on my hard drive percolating. Which means as soon as I finish the first draft of the futuristic I mentioned above, I’ll dive into personal edits on this one. This one about three storm chasers whose lives take a turn after surviving a close encounter with a tornado in America’s Heartland. I gave a sneak peek of this one as well at The Romance Studio’s New Years Party – same deal, just scroll down after the excerpt. http://trsparties.com/index.php/featured-releases/2681-hard-as-stone-a-sneak-peek-mm-adult-excerpts-sara-brookes

* an untitled contemporary erotic romance (BDSM). This is Adam’s book. For those unfamiliar with Adam, he is a close friend of Dalton and made a brief appearance in Ragged Edge. When Dalton left Second Circle, Adam took over one of his duties–instructor.

The CyberLaunch for Hard as Stone will be held on Monday, January 16. I’ll be giving away an Amazon gift card so be sure to swing by on Monday!

So that’s what is hot on my plate at the moment. While I’ve bought a ton of books to read lately, I have some judging packets that need my attention first. So, for the next few months, I’ll be reading those instead of anything in my TBR pile. Though, in the meantime, I have no doubt that pile will continue to grow. One day, I expect it shall consume the room it is stacked in. Not that I’m complaining.

They are fabulous ladies and you should do yourself a favor and check them both out. You won’t regret it.

I think just about everyone I know has already gotten this, so how about those 7 random facts about moi:

1) I’m extremely shy. Seriously, most of time you have to coax a conversation out of me and keep it up or I won’t talk.

3) I taught myself HTML when I needed something to do after my daughter was born.

6) I married my high school sweetheart and as of June 4th (this Saturday), we’ll have been married 17 years.

It’s that time again. What have I been up to?

I just finished up my latest work in progress, Ragged Edge, a contemporary erotic romance involving two men and a woman. Gotta say, this whole going into new territory is a lot of fun. I enjoyed writing their story and it tore at my heartstrings as I discovered what made them all tick. Me and my fondness for broken heroes. Right now it’s with my CP and once I get it back and whipped into a smooth and polished state, I have to decide what to do with it.

Ragged Edge marks the third full length novel I’ve written this year. Hardware (which is already out) and Midnight’s Shadow (out in early 2011) are the other two. I’ve nearly finished whipping the third book in the Rebirth series into shape, but I don’t expect it to be done until after the first of the year–or close to it.

Speaking of Midnight’s Shadow…the first book in that series, Midnight’s Ghost, marked a bit of a milestone. Yesterday, 11/21, was the day I submitted it for consideration for publication with Liquid Silver Books in 2009. I can’t wait to share the continuing saga of Taran and Wallace with readers next year. All I have to say is two words: shower scene

Now I’ll dig my heels into a sci-fi romance short and a co-authored paranormal romance with Stacey Kennedy. This brain of mine needs a break from all the blistering hotness it’s been dealing with lately. There’s also another short in my brain somewhere that’s begging to be told–so you see what I have to work with for the next several months. LOL

On to some self-pimpage:

If you want to see an exclusive excerpt of Hardware and be entered to win a copy, swing by The Romance Studio’s four day Release Party where I’m participating. I’ll be posting an adult excerpt later tonight, but why not check out Allison and Patrick’s first kiss in the meantime?

And, should you find yourself unable to wait and absoltuely must have a copy right this instant, Hardware is now available at All Romance eBooks and Amazon.

/pimping

One last thing, a HUGE thanks to everyone who continually participates in Six Sentence Sunday. You have truly blown my mind with your enthusiasm and your support.

I haven’t done this in a while, so I’d thought I share a bit on how things are going and where they’re going.

My first science fiction romance, Midnight’s Ghost, will be released on May 10 (just a short ten days from now) from Liquid Silver Books. I’ll be doing some promotional work to coincide with the release, so keep an eye out in the coming weeks for that. In fact, on Monday – 5/3 – I’ll be posting the entire first chapter of Midnight’s Ghost. Be sure to stop back by and see what sort of action/adventure/science fiction/hot romance you’re in store for.

Edits are currently in progress for the second Rebirth book, Blood Fever. I’ve got a blurb all ready to go (though it’s still pre-edits) and waiting on a few things before I post that. However, I will say those who got attached to Stark & Ana in Flash of Dark, have no fear, they will return – in time. Blood Fever deals with a different set of characters and they are still attached with events set in motion in Flash of Dark (you can actually think of it as a mini-arc since the next book will be these characters as well). Oh and if there wasn’t enough vampire action in Flash of Dark for you, don’t worry, Blood Fever will make up for it in spades. Trust me.

Currently, I’m hard at work on the next Star Runner book, Midnight’s Shadow, with the third Rebirth book hot on its heels. That third book has a name, but I’m waiting until I get more in-depth with working on it before I announce anything. Plus, I have something else in the works – something completely different – but I’m waiting on that as well.

Needless to say, there’s a lot of waiting right now.

Don’t forget to stop back by tomorrow for Six Sentence Sunday – I’ll be posting six sentences from Midnight’s Shadow as a teaser.

The sickness seems to be leaving me slowly, taking it’s sweet damn time about it. It’s made being productive very tough, so needless to say, I haven’t gotten much done on the writing front. But in an effort to help out with that, I’ve decided to start participating in Excerpt Monday, starting on on October 12th. Follow the link to find out more about it and come back here to my blog on Monday the 12th to see what I have. Hey, anything that will make Monday a better day is alright by me!

In the meantime, I’ve dug back into my sci-fi romance (lovingly (I think) called sci-mance by hubs) that is currently a 27K short. It’s not enough to tell the story I want, so it needs expanding. Espesically since I jotted a bunch of stuff down yesterday that altered the back history I had for the main characters. This one probably won’t be my usual word count level (around 90K), but it does need lengthening to properly tell their story. This, of course, comes about when I’m trying to work on the next book in the Rebirth series. Isn’t that the way it always happens? It’s like my brain gets opened up working on something and something else just slips its way right on in. I’m not one to juggle multiple stories like that either, just like I usually can’t juggle multiple books to read – one at a time please. It’s not that I can’t focus on multiple stories, I just like to give my full attention to whatever it is that I’m reading and/or writing.

I see the RT Convention is open for registration. I’ve been entertaining the idea of going, but not sure yet. Still waffling more towards the “no” side, but, so far, it’s been changing hourly. It’d be a nine hour drive for me as far as driving goes – so that’s the biggest deciding factor, well that and call me silly, but I don’t want to go by myself. Rather have someone I know with me so at least I’d feel a little more comfortable, since I’m not – oh who am I kidding? I’m not very social at all. Had that displayed right in my face earlier this week at a work function I had to attend (where I was getting an award no less). The VP of my whole division sat at the table with me and aside from introducing myself, I didn’t say a word during the meal. Can you imagine if I had to speak?

That’s something I really have got to work on.

Back from my two week business trip to Hawaii and I brought back a friend – a cold. I picked it up over the weekend while I was there and was actually starting to feel better until I got on the plane to come back home. That whole pressurized environment really did me in. At least I have the weekend to recover and catch up – there’s some school work that I didn’t get finished and a paper I have due in two weeks that I promised myself I would work on and didn’t. I wrote instead, but that’s okay – I got a lot of it done. Enough that I’m happy to walk away from it for a few days to get school work done and be comfortable with leaving it.

So, since I was sick, I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I usually do while I’m out there. But, I did take a few:

These were taken at the beach we went to over the weekend (before I got sick). One was my view as I sat reading on the beach (since I’m not much of a water person) and the other was a shot of the tidepools at Pupukea Beach.

The trip was productive on a writing front:

1 ) Started up a Facebook fan page if anyone would like to follow along with that.

2) Came up with a name that I liked for already written now tearing apart WIP (the second book).

3) Tore apart the first three chapters of the WIP and have a new beginning (after 5 attempts) that I truly like.

Off to do schoolwork and fight off this cold!

Think I’m going to do a Six Sentence Sunday tomorrow – be sure to stop back by!

Needless to say, there have been various opportunities over the past week/week-and-a-half (give or take) when I haven’t been able to find words. Me? Not find the words? Unthinkable. But, yep, it’s happened.

It’s all Good ThingsTM and I’ll be sure to tell you all about it when I find those words again.

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with another Good ThingTM. If you haven’t already, and you enjoy erotic romances, go read Lauren Dane’s Laid Bare. You can read an excerpt over at her website: here. I enjoyed it so much that, after I finished it, I went out and bought another copy to gift to a friend who house-sit for us while we were on vacation.
