Well, I was all set to offer up six sentences of my next book, a contemporary erotic romance, since edits have started (as, yes, I’m a sicko that enjoys when the edits start) BUT I decided to celebrate something else instead since things were just finalized. So, enjoy the book I just signed a contract for, the second book in my science fiction romance series Star Runner Saga–Midnight’s Shadow, for release in early 2011:

The solitary sun beat down on his perspiration slickened flesh, his upper body completely exposed as he’d taken off his shirt at some point in the day. Now he only wore pants and had removed his boots in order to dip his feet into the cool water at the shoreline.
Months of separation from him slammed into me and I dipped under the water in order to hide the heat that had seeped into my face. When I surfaced again, he was still there watching me. It was hard to ignore the fact he sat just a few feet away from me half dressed while I was completely nude. However, I knew until we talked, our state of undress wouldn’t matter in the least.

Sunday, Bloody Sunday…well for my characters at least. Six sentences from my work in progress, the third book in the Rebirth series.

“You don’t have to do this.”
“Yes, I do. We both need it,” I added.
“I’m yours, Ev. I always have been and last night isn’t going to change that.”
“Then I need this to reassure myself I’m not the monster I fear.”

This week I’m on a business trip, so I’m getting some progress (although slow) done on the third Rebirth book. Here’s a snippet:

Six Sentence Sunday – 8/15

I thought I’d share something new I’m working on – an Urban Fantasy Romance with gargoyles as the fantasy creatures. And hoo-boy, is he one fantasy creature. *ahem* Back to the point…it’ll be something new, unconnected to anything else I’ve written so far - tentatively titled Fighting Daybreak. I’ve fudged the six sentences a little this week (by two) but necessary, really. Rough and uncut:

“We need O positive STAT. She’s bleeding out.”

Farren’ s hand pulsed around the small heart she cradled. They’d already tried the paddles twice, but the hole through the patient’s heart wouldn’t allow blood to remain in the lower chamber. The patient needed to be stable enough in order to repair the hole, but it was going to take a miracle. And Farren Daniels was certain she’d already used up her allotted miracles.

She’d been a doctor long enough to know how this was going to end—even as the patient had been wheeled into her emergency room. Gunshot wounds and five year old little girls don’t mix.

Six Sentence Sunday – 8/8

Today is August 8th. Not only is it Six Sentence Sunday, it is also an anniversary for me. See, one year ago today, I pushed the SEND button to submit what would become my first published eBook. So, in celebration, enjoy six sentences from FLASH OF DARK.

The rope at my wrists chaffed against delicate skin as I struggled against them, wanting to have my hands on him, but the pain only fueled the need raging inside of me. His hands skimmed up my arms, our fingers lacing together and I immediately let my defenses fall away. Every wall, every brick I had ever erected, dissolved as I relinquished control to Stark completely.
Pain lashed at us both, originating somewhere deep within me, but he followed my lead and tempered it quickly. Far more quickly than I would have expected for someone who wasn’t Fae.
Perhaps I should have given him more credit sooner.

Six Sentence Sunday – 8/1

I’m planning on having a post later this week about a deleted scene from Blood Fever, the second book in the Rebirth series. And I know all I’ve had updates on lately has been mainly excerpts, but that’s because I’ve been hard at work on the second book in Star Runner’s Saga, Midnight’s Shadow. Happy to report, earlier this week, I finished it. So…enjoy six sentences from it:

As I stood outside the entrance hatch, I stripped off my glove and caressed my bare fingertips over the outer hull just as lover would when they touched someone for the first time. I detected a vibration of energy just under the surface of the metal and it rippled through my hand to travel up my arm. Life hummed through her despite the fact she was merely just a starship and my eyes fluttered closed as I breathed out a quiet sigh. There was a spark of energy that ran through the hull, something I couldn’t quite place but loved all the same. There was life and power, but most of all—there was hope.
“Should I leave the two of you alone?”

I’d been thinking about this story lately and thought I’d share a little, though I’ve fudged the six count a little. Un-edited, of course. From my upcoming release, Hardware.

The aroma of her arousal washed over him and he inhaled the heavy musk scent as he trailed a line of openmouthed kisses over her inner thigh. He felt her muscles start to tremble under his touch. His fingers parted the scorching hot flesh between her legs and his tongue slowly rasped over the bundle of nerves he found. Without warning, her knee buckled and he immediately shifted his hands to take her entire weight in his arms in order to hold her steady.
She whimpered quietly.
“Hush,” he quietly ordered as he glanced up to her face and saw that ever present gnaw. Her gaze met his and despite her fumble, he saw the expectation on her face. “I’m going to touch you now. I want to know what you feel like.”

From my current WiP, the third Rebirth series novel – Slow Burn. Fresh and completely unedited, so any mistakes are completely my own.

I could taste the thrum of energy in the air around us. It was more prominent and unsettling than ever before. My face tilted down toward the surface of the water as I was unsure if I could meet either of them eye-to-eye. Right now, I would give them everything they wanted. In a split-second, I could drown in them both. They’d given me their love–their lives–without question and I didn’t know if I could protect those gifts with the care they deserved. That was my hesitation despite the fact this all felt so damned good.

Quinn stood in the center of the water spray, the cascade falling down over his lowered head. His arms hung loosely at his side and I could see the weight of something heavy had settled over him. He didn’t show it often as weakness wasn’t something he chose to let others see. My heart clenched tightly in my chest. I wanted to go to him. Wanted to wrap him in my arms and will away all the pain expressed so vividly in his defeated posture.

Six Sentence Sunday – 7/4

It’s Independence Day here in the states, which means a lot of cook-outs and fireworks. It’s Sunday, so it also means it’s Six Sentence Sunday. Today, my offering is the first six sentences from my upcoming release (July 12th), Blood Fever. Later in the week, I’ll post the first chapter in its entirety.

A strong hand clamped over my throat and squeezed so hard my vision went black on the outer edges almost at once. I was currently being pinned to the wall of my bedroom by an enraged vampire and it wasn’t the sort of compromising position I found fun.
It had been forty-eight hours since the incident in the alley.
I couldn’t decide what to be more pissed off about. The lack of sleep or the vampire I’d knowingly made.
The scent of violence permeated the room and clogged my nose.
