Laird Colin McIntyre is faced with a dilemma. Wed the daughter of his enemy or watch the destruction of his clan. However, he’s captured before he can declare war. Time is of the essence, and if he’s to escape, his only chance rests with the hope that his men arrive before the wedding.

Abandoned by her guardian, Beatrice finds herself stationed as a servant in the keep and ordered by Laird Sinclair to tend to Colin, who is being held against his will. Inexplicably drawn to the Highlander and his kindness, she vows to help him escape, but at what cost?

With their fates intertwined, will Colin and Beatrice finally be free of Sinclair’s reign of terror? Or will they be driven apart once again by an invasion led by new enemy forces, never knowing how much they’re meant to be together?

“Are ye angry with me because ye think I’m going to pass ye off to another or because ye want more of the pleasure I gave ye last night?”

Beatrice hadn’t the slightest clue how to respond to his question. In fact, she had no idea how to feel at this moment. She desired him, but she wanted so much more than to become a leman. Up until her exile, Beatrice had hoped to one day marry and have children, and no one in the Highlands would have her.

“I’m not sure why I’m angry, if ye must know. I have no idea why I thought giving myself to ye was a good idea.”

“If yer talking about the lad, I had no idea ye still cared for him. If yer worried that I will hand ye off to another, I will not do so unless that is what ye want. And I have no idea where ye seem to think I would have made ye my leman. I do not want one at all. I haven’t got the time to keep mistresses about, but I do have need of a wife.”

Beatrice stilled in his arms. “A wife?”

“Aye, a wife. How do ye suppose I will have heirs? Immaculate conception?”

“I see,” she said, unsure of where this discussion was going to end.

“Right now is not the time to discuss these issues. Even a laird has to take time away from bed to tend to important matters. I will return to the keep, and Giric will escort ye when yer ready.”

“Why must I go? Yer affairs are exactly that. Yers.”

“My affairs also include you, from the moment I made ye mine. So, ye’ll join me at the keep within the hour, and do not keep me waiting.”

Colin lifted her off of him and placed her back on the bed. She watched him dress just as quickly, splash some water on his face, and walk out of the cottage.

Lord, if they didna have the audience outside of the cottage, she’d have yelled at him soundly and remind him that this was her home and not his.

But Lord, how she adored that man and the very body he possessed.

Beatrice left the bed to see what clean water she had left in the pail. Luckily, she had enough to clean herself up and make herself presentable before Colin and Lady McIntyre.

By the time she met Giric outside, a small group of soldiers had joined him.

“Are ye ready, Beatrice?”

“I thought I was only to be accompanied by ye?”

“The laird thought it would be a good idea to have more just in case there were any lingering soldiers loyal to the Sinclair.”

“I see. Well, if we must, then let us be on our way. I canna imagine he’d be happy if I kept him any longer.”

“Just a word of advice, lass. What the laird wants, he usually gets. So ye might not want to incite his anger.” Giric leaned in and whispered, “Unless yer wanting yer backside spanked.”

Guest Post: Kacey Hammell on Writing the Best When Surrounded by Support

I’m very excited today to welcome Kacey Hammell back here – and this time she’s celebrating her debut release with Ellora’s Cave!

~*~

I’ve been very lucky. I have a small group of family around me who support my writing and believe in me. Their support never wavers and they bolster me up on the toughest days when writing can be difficult.

My Mom brags to anyone who will listen, and my husband encourages me with massages, kind words and sweet whispers of his belief in me. Plus my daughter and her BFFs love the wickedly hot covers, images of sexy men that inspire me, and all vow to read every book I’ve written once they’re of legal age LOL – though to think of them reading what I write at any age is odd!! *g*

Many people around the WWW don’t find a lot of value in forums/sites such as Facebook and there is often times a lot of nastiness that happens online and it can be a terrible place to find support/kind words.

However, I’ve been blessed to have connected with a lot of authors through Facebook and various places, and so many are very supportive and encouraging. Many are also willing to share info that helps their careers, promo opportunities, swag ideas and/or offering to read a blurb/synopsis that is kicking my ass. Readers are also very supportive and when I get receive a letter from a fan of my books, it’s like Christmas morning all over again.

Whether aspiring or a bestselling author, one of the best things a writer needs to do is surround themselves with as many encouraging people as possible. True supporters who will stand beside an author and lend a hand, provide a shoulder to cry on and tell us like it is—even if it hurts to hear.

I hope all authors have found those wonderful people to surround themselves. Writing can be even more fun and at its best when an author knows there’s a legion behind her.

A Romantica® erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

As she crossed the threshold, a man looking out the window turned.

Daaaaamn. What a fine specimen.

At least six feet tall with a strong jaw, short dark hair and a silver stud earring in his left ear. Her insides quivered. Dark jeans, a white button-down shirt and a black leather jacket made him sexy and masculine. She guessed him to be in his late thirties.

She’d never met Adam in all the years she and Bobby had been friends, and damn if she wasn’t disappointed she never had. He was a gorgeous man. She’d missed out on a lot.

“Hello, Mrs….”

A tad nervous about her reaction to him, she lowered her eyes, then eased the door shut behind her and turned the lock. They needed privacy. Smiling, she slunk into the room. “Why don’t you sit down and get comfortable?”

He frowned, then tilted his head to the side and scanned her body up and down. His baby blues widened when they landed on her red stilettos.

Lark grinned. So the studmuffin wasn’t used to women who dressed like her. Good. Made it all the more fun to entice them.

“I’m sorry, am I in the wrong office?”

“You’re here to see Bobby, correct?” She knew he was, but didn’t want to give the game away.

“Yes I am.”

“Then you’re in the right place.” She drew open the sides of the belt keeping her jacket closed. Working it apart in deliberate slow motion to heighten anticipation, she again instructed, “Have a seat. I don’t bite.” She smirked. “Unless you ask me to.”

He watched her, eyes bulging as she pushed the material off her shoulders and laid it over Bobby’s desk.

Shock and uncertainty flooded his eyes but was quickly replaced with interest and heat as he took in her scantily clad body.

Good. She liked his full attention on her.

“I’m not sure what’s going on here. Are you Bobby’s secretary?” She opened her mouth to speak but he raised a hand and ushered her to hush. “I’ve never seen a secretary look like you.”

She laughed, ignoring his question about her identity, and winked at him as he sat in the chair in front of Bobby’s desk. “Oh this old thing?” She gestured to her red silk crop top, her black lace bra showing through, and her crimson leather skirt, which was so short her panties would surely show if she bent over. “Just something I threw on this morning.” She moved in front of him and leaned her ass on the desk.

He grinned and stared up at her. “What can I do for you?”

“Oh honey.” She retrieved her cell phone. “Ask not what you can do for me.” She pressed the music button and selected her dance playlist. “But what I can do for you.”
