First, I’m Going to Tell You a Story

For WiP Wednesday, it’s all about first lines. I’m a big proponent of them because I feel like it’s a make or break time for your story. This is your one line to snag a reader, to grab their interest and reel them in. Pull them into the story and make them continue reading becasue they’re interested in seeing what’s going on.

He sighed heavily, pressing his fingers against the bridge of his nose as he unlocked the door to his apartment.

See? You know, just from that, something’s weighing heavily on the character. There’s some stress or tension that’s plaguing him. It’s just enough to make you keep reading to see what’s going on with him. It may not be the strongest line, but it’s enough to grab an interest.

Is It Productive if My Brain Hurts and It’s Not Because of the Claws?

It’s been a productive week this week, despite my utter lack of motivation. The past few weeks of running around seem to have caught up with me recently and guh, the brain – she pains me. But in the past few days I’ve knocked out three chapters of editing work. I hope to get in another chapter tonight but the paying job worked my brain overtime today, so we’ll see how that pans out.

Starting to plan how to work out next week. Sadly, yes, I plan for such a thing as going to the movies. Especially when it’s something that I’ve been waiting to see for over a year. (the Wolverine movie for those of you not in the know) One of the movie theatres around here is advertising a midnight showing next week but with kiddo, hubby and I can’t go. I don’t have anyone else to go with, so right now, we’re planning to get off early on Friday and go. Though, that’s not a change from the previous X-Men movies; that’s what we’ve done. To be honest, I’m going in with really low expectations. I figure that way; even if it sucks – I’ll only be so disappointed. I am expecting nearly two hours of eye candy however, based on the trailers – that should be just fine.

I have started scribbling notes and whole sections of writing for the next thing that I’m working on. A section that I sketched out yesterday actually involved my main character in a scene with a character from the story I’m editing. These books are four books apart from each other and is the first time they’ve met. It was actually a bit odd to sketch out the conversation. Fun – but odd.

I’ve also decided that it’s time to add to the tattoo collection. Have to just work out the design that’s in my head now. I can’t draw to save my life, so I’ll have to be able to articulate it to the artist.

Should be an adventure.

Oh! And today’s WiP offering:

The rich blue sky that had dominated the afternoon was slowly slipping away, succumbing to the fiery wash of sunset. My focus was not on the dazzling display in the sky but instead on the figure that stood out on the balcony, watching the sun set.

Someone’s in My Fruit Cellar! Someone with a Fresh Soul!

Didn’t forget about WiP Wednesday this week either – my daughter is on spring break this week and is spending the time with her grandparents. So that means hubby and I have had the whole week to ourselves (when he’s not had school) after I got back into town Sunday evening. Quality time, you get it where you can get it, especially having a near teenager that keeps you behind the wheel of your vehicle a lot. Not that I don’t enjoy her and the activities the she participates in – but, seriously, I got all schoolgirly because we got to see a movie in the middle of the week after work. For no other reason than we could and we wanted to! We saw Fast & Furious Tuesday night and it satisfied my delight for eye candy – both man and car variety.

Pervy geek girl status – firmly checked and in place.

So – this week’s WiP is fresh. We’re talking plucked right off the tree fresh. Put it this way, it’s been sitting in a Notepad file for a few days; just enough time to ripen. It hasn’t even made it to my word processor yet. It means I’m still tweaking a little but have at it:

Need scorched through my veins; dark and rich.

Yup, just one sentence today. Told ya it would vary, didn’t I?

Ash here is going to keep an eye on things for me. You just never know when an errant zombie is going to show up.
